I’ve been trying to connect my social media for 4 hours. Four. Hours.
(During this time I have also made breakfast, saved my children from an outdoor bug they were confident was going to eat them alive, vacuumed a cupcake mess from who knows when, and done a load of laundry - if you can’t do Mom-shit while doing everything else you’ll never get anything done).
I’m sitting here thinking, well Mercury Retrograde doesn’t start for another week and a half. What the hell is going on? I’ll tell you what’s going on. The Shadow Period. Doesn’t that just sound delightful? It really alludes to an episode title of Game of Thrones. Oh, and not to mention the Total Solar Eclipse happening on August 21st... as in, you better hide now because it's about to go down. It’s bad enough we have to prepare for Mercury going into Retrograde but now we also have to think about the weeks surrounding it. I asked a spiritual teacher about the shadow period once and after a bit of explaining she stopped herself and said “Basically… it can suck just as hard as Retrograde”.
Turn off your phone and enjoy the silence.
August is entirely swallowed up by Mercury in retrograde or the shadow period. While Mercury Retrograde brings issues our way, so will the Shadow Period. It's basically just retrogrades way of easing itself into our lives (ease, ha!). Be prepared to be inconvenienced, y'all! However, this is a good time to look at your life and see what needs tending to. Turn your attention towards yourself and your home, & look in. Both your Full Moon Release Ritual and New Moon Manifesting Ritual will be important this month to keep your eye on what you’re moving towards. Focusing on letting go of things that no longer serve you will create the space for the new things you want to bring into your life. Awareness is the name of the game during retrograde and the shadow period. Don't fear it, just be mindful that this month has the ability to get weird. If something is going haywire (social media, electronics, constant dropped calls) take a beat, step away, and breathe. Get outside. Appreciate the last days of summer. This can be a time of transformation if you stay mindful during the month.
